Dual Focus

Dual Focus

The Dual Focus program is an outpatient program for persons who have co-occurring mental health problems such as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder and other mental health disorders along with substance use problems.

Drug and Alcohol Problems become apparent when a persons drinking or drug use begin to cause problems in any area of life. Examples include arrests for DWI/DUI/DWAI, drug possession, complaints of alcohol and drug use by family members, difficulties at work or any other problem related to their substance use.

Mental Health Problems include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, schizophrenia, and other similar problems.  These issues may range from mild to severe.  If an individual’s mental health is not being treated, when they enter treatment here at Harbor Lights, the counselor will work with the client and make a referral for a mental health evaluation and mental health treatment if warranted. Individuals will learn about, and explore their feelings surrounding their substance use and mental health problems. They will be taught healthy coping skills to deal with their mental health problems instead of self-medicating with substances.

*If substance abuse and mental health problems go untreated, they will not go away on their own.  They tend to be progressive illnesses that will get worse over time. Treatment is helpful at any stage in the progression of these illnesses. *
